Sodium is necessary for human life as well, with about 0.24% abundance in humans. Sodium also makes up about 1.1% of oceans because they are salt water. Because sodium is so reactive, it is never found in its pure form in nature, and is usually found in minerals like halite (NaCl) which is commonly called salt. Sodium is the sixth most abundant element on Earth and makes up about 2.3% of the Earth’s crust.
